The Cartoonism Collective first began to take shape in 2007, developing from a series of group exhibitions in Texas that featured art by its five founding members: R. Thies, Miguel 'Miggy' Aguilar, David DeGrand, Tyson Summers, and Justin Jackley.

The Cartoonism Collective was established in the spirit of solidarity - to unite creators who produce artwork that is influenced by comics, comix and cartoons. Artwork that is inspired by movements in Pop Art, Cubism, Surrealism, Dada, Abstract, Lowbrow, etc.

The Cartoonism Collective has been on a hiatus, for the most part, since 2015. With the 2021 launch of its Instagram page, it is now emerging from the depths of dormancy.
